Marr and Melton Wood Action Group

On Wednesday 27th September 2006, Banks Developments unveiled a plan to construct between four and seven 125m wind turbines on green-belt farm land opposite the village of Marr in South Yorkshire. This blog will chart the progress of the local movement as it fights to oppose the scheme.

Letter of Support and Objection

Much has been made of the fact that more letters of support have been submitted in support of the Windfarm than those that have objected. So today I sat down in the Planning Department and went through each and every letter.

Firstly letters of support for the proposal. This was a simple task as there were just three standard letters that had been photocopied and submitted. I suspect that these had been handed out in the Market Place. I did not see one letter that had been handwritten. It is also interesting to see that of the 228 letters of support submitted - 15% did not have a Doncaster post-code and 2 were from outside of the UK (Gibraltar and Texas!). It is also worthy of note that only a single letter of support was received from one of the effected villages.

Of the 132 letters of objection, many were lengthy and hand-written and some were supported by newspaper clippings and extracts from reports. It was clear that people felt strongly about the proposal and were worried about the impact that the development would have. There was strong objection from all of the surrounding villages.

Thank you to anyone that took the time to sit down, think about the issue and put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard).

The distribution by area was as follows:

Letters of Support
Central Doncaster - 15
Aukley/Finningley/Branton - 6

This is concrete evidence that local people ie those who have the most awareness of the impact these turbines would have on the area are totally against the application.

Out of area support has clearly been drummed up by the pro wind farm lobby

way you write is awesome.Thanks. Adding more information will be more useful.

Lived in darfield almost all my life and was shocked to see the turbines,it would appear that building on green belt land is only objectionable if your not the goverment (AS SEEN BY THE LATEST COUNCIL HOUSING EXPANSION PLANNED IN WATH WHERE I NOW LIVE)apply to build on any greenbelt and see what happens. The goverment and councillors dont care about you or your viewpoints and i suspect thats why no one bothers to object because they know it doesn't matter as long as we keep europe happy save your pennies and move to italy /france it wouldnt happen there.

THIS IS A SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM on the NOISE and thousands of BIRDS AND BATS THAT ARE KILLED by the speedy-kind wind turbines that OCCUPY WIDE LANDSCAPES:

This wind power plant has ZERO-NOISE from the gears and the generators because they are sealed underground (Only the outer parts of the turbines may be heard.).
This wind power plant SAVES THE BIRDS AND BATS because the wind turbines are slow-moving since the speed is in the transmission gears and in the generators.
This wind power plant DOES NOT NEED TO OCCUPY A WIDE LANDSCAPE in order to produce a particular related great amount of electricity because the height can be increased like the very tall buildings.
This wind power plant MAY BE LOWER-COST because it may use timber and other cheaper things like the parts that may be similar to the parts of the lower-cost trucks, machines, construction materials, and others; and it may also use recycled materials.
This wind power plant ELUDES HURRICANE FORCE since the V-type folding blades automatically close into lying-flat horizontal position through hydraulics and computers when there is excessive wind force and automatically open when the wind becomes weak.
This wind power plant is FREE FROM FIRE because it has an efficient cooling system and efficient prevention of exessive force.
This wind power plant PRODUCES ELECTRICITY EVEN IN WEAKER WIND because it uses small generators that are sequentially engaged and disengaged by computer through gadgets depending on the torque levels.
This wind power plant HELPS THE WIND-ENERGY COMPANIES because it is FREE FOR ALL. The energy companies are free to start using this wind power plant that uses a gigantic slow-moving wind turbine.
